Moon planting is like surfing - the big waves keep coming, you may as well ride them! This easy to follow Moon Planting Guide tells you at a glance how to adjust your gardening activities to the rhythms of the Moon to enhance plant vitality. Three methods of Moon planting are explained. Each can be practised individually or in combination with the others. Consideration of the rhythms of the Moon has been part of the growing process of most early cultures. The Moon affects large masses of water such as oceans (tides) and rivers and also asserts an influence on the small bodies of liquid found in plants (sap). When water is rising during the Waxing Moon, seeds sown and crops planted can more easily take up liquids than those sown in the waning phase. The 28-day cycle of the Ascending and Descending Moon is less known, but also plays an important part in lunar planting. Yet another method is the “Moon in Zodiac” rhythm. Every two to three days the Moon moves in front of one of the star constellations known as the Sidereal Zodiac. Since very ancient times the Zodiac constellations have been associated with the elements of fire, air, water and earth. Each element in turn relates to specific plant parts.
